1 Cor 14:1a caught my attention the other day. It simply says, “Pursue love” in the NKJV. I decided to see how some other translations rendered this phrase: - “Let love be your highest goal” (NLT); “Make love your aim” (RSV); “Above all else, let love be the beautiful prize for which you run” (TPT); “Go after a life of love as if your life depended on it” (MSG) Wow! That last one really spoke to me! What I get from this is that pursuing or seeking after love is very important and should be a top priority.
So, how do we do this? We need to study love and our Bible is full of teaching on love because God is love. The best way to study love is by finding, reading and meditating on all the scriptures pertaining to love and 1 Cor 13 is a good place to start. Also, studying the ministry of Jesus because everything He did was done in love. For example, feeding the 5,000, healing the sick, raising Lazarus from the dead and not to mention giving His life as a ransom for you and me and then forgiving all His accusers.
We will never become perfect in our love walk because we are human but with the help of the Holy Spirit we can definitely grow, and mature and then “they will know we are Christians by our love” (John 13:35).
