“For
to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.
Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law
of God, neither indeed can be. So then they that are in the flesh cannot please
God. (Rom 8:6-8; KJV).
The
Lord showed me in a very vivid dream that most Christians struggle with
operating in the spirit realm or in God’s ways and under his direction. We
lapse far too much into operating in the flesh or under the dictates of our own
minds without checking in with God, or we just plain do things our way. Life is
hard and fraught with struggle and failures when we do it our way.
When
we were born again it is was spirits that were made new (John 3:4-5) not our
souls or bodies. The word says we have to bring our bodies under (1 Cor 9:27) and
renew our minds with God’s word so they can be directed by God through our
spirit (Rom 12:2; Prov 20:27). God wants to direct us into the path he has for
us (Prov 3:5-6), he desires ongoing communion with us so we can walk in the
life he enjoys and, in his peace, (Rom 8:14; John 10:10).
We
need to try it God’s way today, check in with him, get his direction for our
days; it will be good and o my, his peace is beyond all understanding and guards
our minds and our hearts (Phil 4:7).

As
Christians, we are new creations in Christ Jesus (2 Cor 5:17). The bible says
that: “I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me” (Phil 4:13).
The Holy Spirit who dwells in each of us is the same Spirit that empowered
Jesus for his ministry (John 1:32) and raised him from the dead (Rom 8:11). The
Spirit in us is mightier than any demonic force in this world (1 John 4:4).
If
we cooperate with God, he will transform us to be more like him each day (2 Cor
3:18) and in fact, we are assured that he will complete the work he has begun
in us (Phil 1:6).
Do
you realize that the fullness of Christ is in you (John 1:16)? God wants to
show his fullness to the world through you (Eph 3:10). Jesus told us to go and
shine like lights to our broken world, to make disciples of all nations (Mark
16:15-18). He said we would do the miracles he did and even greater things
because the Holy Spirit lives in us (John 14:12-18). We walk in the power and
authority of Jesus (Matt 28:18-20). When we share Christ with people, Jesus
will give us the things to say (Luke 21:15); he never leaves or let us down
(Heb 13:5). We will lay hands on the diseased and they will be healed (Mark
16:15-18). Are you getting the picture? Let God flow through you today, his: “rivers
of living water” (John 7:38).

I
love the story of the Samaritan woman in her encounter with Jesus at the well
of Sychar (John 4:1-42). Jesus cut across racial prejudices (v9), in love, to
reach this woman. Jesus operated in the spiritual gift of the word of knowledge
to get her attention (v17-18; 1 Cor 12:8) and showed her the route to salvation
(John 4:26; Rom 10:9).
There
is also a great contrast in these verses as well. The contrast of the carnal
mind of the non-Christian versus Jesus and the born-again Christian (v10-18).
Jesus talked of “living water” (v10 and 13-14). He was referring to the water
of the word; the word of God (Eph 5:26). The woman only saw natural water but
Jesus spoke of the spiritual power of the word of God (Heb 4:12) to satisfy our
spiritual thirst and transform us as children of God to eternal life (v10 and
13-14). “But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for
they are foolishness unto him: neither
can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned” (KJV; 1 Cor 2:14).
The Holy Spirit reveals God’s word to us, to our spirit (our spiritual heart or
conscience; John 14:26). The bible tells us we are: “spirit, soul and body”
(1Thess 5:23).
We
are told that God’s word “is truth” and that “the truth shall make you free” (John
17:17; 8:32). Free from what? Well, anything that holds you back from having
and being all that God wants you to have and be. It’s not just head knowledge
but spiritual discernment, understanding, revelation, which sets us free and
brings the God kind of life (John 10:10).
We
must get into the word and build up our faith (Rom 10:17). We need to get the word
into our spirit so it can become powerful in our lives to transform us, change
us and release all of God’s promises in our lives. There are no short cuts, it
takes time in the word to get that spiritual discernment or revelation and
faith that we so need.

(Gal.
5:22-23; KJV) “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness,
goodness, faith, Meekness, temperance: against such things there is no law.
These
fruits are developed in us entirely by the Holy Spirit working on the inside of
us to bring revelation from God’s word and then change as we allow him. There
is no way we can produce this kind of fruit in our own ability.
Don’t
get frustrated if your fruit isn’t as developed and luscious as you would like
it to be; be patient with yourself because fruit grows slowly. Make sure you
are providing the right conditions for your fruit such as sun and light
(Jesus), water (the word), and tender loving care (the work of the Spirit) and
slowly but surely your fruit will develop.
If
we are truly serious about developing the fruit of the Spirit in our lives then
I believe we will need to spend time studying it, meditating on it and then
putting it into practice. Just think of our lives yielded to God and flowing in
the fruit of the Spirit. Think of our churches if we would all allow the Holy
Spirit to have his way in all of our lives!

“But
if the Spirit of him that raised Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that
raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his
Spirit that dwelleth in you” (Rom 8:11; KJV).
This
is a verse that I have been confessing for years. It is almost unbelievable
that we have the same Spirit in us that raised Jesus from the dead. It can’t
get any better than that. That same power of the Holy Spirit brings us gifts of
wisdom, words of knowledge, faith that goes beyond the faith we all have, gifts
of healing, working of miracles, prophesy, discerning of spirits, tongues and
interpretation of tongues (1 Cor 12:8-10).
That
same Spirit can change us if we allow, so that the fruit of the Spirit develops
in us: love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,
gentleness and self-control. (Gal 5:22-23). Wow and double wow.
If
you need healing in your body that same Spirit in you can bring healing. If you
need self-control that same Spirit can bring it. If you need strength for your
body, that same Spirit can bring strength. Whatever it is you need, that same
Spirit can supply it. However, to just read about it is not enough, we need to
believe and confess this word so that the power in it can have an effect on us.
